About SpeedingCost.com

A free tool built to help US drivers understand the real cost of a speeding ticket — before they open the envelope.

🎯

Our Mission

Every year, millions of Americans receive speeding tickets — and most have no idea what they'll actually owe until they look up the fine online, call the courthouse, or show up to pay. Fine amounts vary dramatically from state to state, road to road, and speed to speed.

SpeedingCost.com was built to close that information gap. Our calculator gives drivers an instant, state-specific estimate of their likely fine — including court fees, surcharges, and road-type multipliers — so there are no surprises.

⚙️

How the Calculator Works

Our estimates are built from publicly available traffic fine schedules, court fee tables, and state DMV data for all 50 US states. For each state we model:

  • Base fine — the statutory minimum set by state law
  • Per-mph charge — additional cost for each mile per hour over the limit
  • Court & administrative fees — flat surcharges added by the court
  • Road-type multipliers — school and construction zones typically double the fine

The calculator shows a low–high range to account for the real-world variation that comes from different counties, courts, and judges within the same state.
